The Washington Post featured Republican Alabama Senate candidate Lynda Blanchard in a detailed report today on Republicans’ expensive pilgrimages to former president Donald Trump’s Florida properties. But Blanchard was an example of how it doesn’t always pay full returns to rent a ballroom and throw an expensive campaign event there. Trump showed up and posed for a photograph, but he endorsed another candidate.
The Post story shows the stream of candidates spending six figures each to hold events at the resort or other Florida Trump properties. The goal is hoping to see or even hear from the former president. “Since Trump left office, at least six Republican candidates have held fundraisers at the former president’s Florida properties. This weekend, there will be at least six more events put on by GOP-aligned groups,” the story said.
Three weeks after posing with Blanchard, Trump formally endorsed Alabama Congressman Mo Brooks of Huntsville for the seat being vacated by retiring U.S. Richard Shelby.
