One of the Republican favorites to take on U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto in 2022 has a spotty electoral record despite having one of the most recognizable names in Nevada politics. The other is a little-known newcomer from Reno, with no Nevada campaign record to speak of.

That might sound like great news for Cortez Masto, a first-term Democrat tasked with fending off Republican attempts to grab a Senate seat that could tip the balance of power in Washington, D.C.

Yet Cortez Masto, like her colleagues down the ballot, is running in an increasingly hostile reelection atmosphere tainted by rising inflation, broken supply chains and the seemingly never-ending struggle to tamp down the COVID crisis.
